The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) will lift the ban on cryptocurrency exchange-traded notes (ETN) on retail investors starting October 8, allowing them to invest in products that track Bitcoin, such as BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin ETP (BTCN) listed on the London Stock Exchange. ETN is a debt security that tracks the price of cryptocurrencies, unlike an ETF that is bound by UCITS diversification rules. Bitcoin’s all-time high of $114,000 and the demand for institutional investors may increase confidence in these emerging investment vehicles.
