AI infrastructure company Anthropic said that despite “complex” protection measures, cybercriminals are still using its AI chatbot Claude to conduct large-scale cyberattacks, according to Cointelegraph. The report shows that criminals used Claude to provide technical advice and directly execute hacking, demanding a ransom of more than $500,000. In 2025, Chainalysis predicts crypto scams will reach new highs, as generative AI makes attacks more scale and cost-effective. Anthropic found a hacker leveraging Claude to steal sensitive data from at least 17 organizations, with ransom demands ranging from $75,000 to $500,000. North Korean IT workers also used Claude to forge their identities, passed technical tests and obtained remote positions at Fortune 500 tech companies in the United States, which still sent profits to the North Korean regime despite international sanctions. Anthropic's report is designed to help the AI security community strengthen its defense.
