Climate change causes at least 16,500 people to die of heat this summer

Extreme high temperatures caused by climate change this summer have killed about 16,500 European cities, more than three times the expected mortality rate, a new study shows. Temperatures in Spain and Portugal reached a record 46 degrees Celsius, killing several outdoor workers and setting the fourth hottest summer record on record in Europe.
