Huobi HTX reported that according to people familiar with the matter, the White House is considering other candidates as the confirmation process for Brian Quintenz to be chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has stalled. Discussions on the candidates for the CFTC chair in recent weeks have intensified. Possible competitors include government officials focused on cryptocurrency policy, people familiar with the matter said. The CFTC regulates trillions of swaps, and the agency may gain greater influence in the digital asset space as legislation is being considered by Congress. The agency was originally a bipartisan committee of five people, and after a series of personnel resigned, the agency was left with acting chairman Caroline Pham. At present, the Trump administration has not announced the removal of Quintenz.
