According to Cointelegraph, the United States and the United Kingdom signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop technologies such as artificial intelligence, nuclear energy, quantum computing, etc., and apply them to the fields of aerospace, military defense and biomedicine. The memorandum proposes that the two government departments jointly study these emerging technologies.
The two countries will set up a working group to develop quantum computing hardware, software and algorithms. Quantum computing may crack modern encryption standards and attract the attention of the crypto community. The two countries will also explore the construction of 6G mobile communication networks.
President Trump said the cooperation has led to a $350 billion deal and stressed that the UK will be the world's best reliable supplier of AI hardware and software. Last year, the United States invested $17 trillion, striving to lead in AI and high-performance computing.
The two countries will cooperate to develop nuclear fusion reactors to reduce their dependence on foreign fuels. Nuclear fusion is safer than nuclear fission, has less radiation and does not cause catastrophic meltdown. Adequate energy may affect the PoW algorithm and lower the attack threshold.
The United States and the United Kingdom will set up an "administrative branch working group" within six months and start annual R&D cooperation. The White House clarification memorandum is not legally binding and both parties do not need to invest money or change existing agreements.
