69,000 victims, $200 per photo: Indian employees are linked to Coinbase data breach

The latest public court documents revealed that Coinbase had a massive internal data breach involving more than 69,000 customers and losses were estimated to be as high as $400 million. An employee of contractor TaskUs allegedly began stealing sensitive user data from December 2024 and sold it to hackers who pretend to be Coinbase employees to steal account funds. Coinbase discovered the data breach on May 11, 2025, but did not notify affected users until May 30. The exchange has terminated its partnership with the employees involved and provided identity protection services.
