Binance is in talks with the U.S. Department of Justice to potentially terminate its court-mandated compliance oversight. Less than two years ago, Binance reached a $4.3 billion plea agreement on money laundering and sanctions violations. The three-year oversight began in May 2024, while the Financial Crime Enforcement Agency (FinCEN) separate five-year oversight plan remains unclear. Under CEO Richard Teng, Binance spent more than $200 million on compliance in 2024 alone, but its trading dominance has declined after the settlement.
