According to BlockBeats, on September 16, a new survey showed that software developers engaged in Ethereum blockchain maintenance and improvement had a median annual salary of $140,000. According to a survey by Protocol Guild, those Ethereum core developers who have the opportunity to "change jobs" receive a median salary quote of $300,000, more than twice their current salary, while their job is to improve the world's most important smart contract blockchain. Ethereum is maintained by a group of distributed software developers. Many people work for the Ethereum Foundation, which held more than $970 million worth of cryptocurrencies and other assets as of October last year. But many people are also employed by other crypto companies, and hiring core Ethereum developers is more of a "good-intentioned support" move. It is estimated that there are currently 200 to 300 core Ethereum developers, of which 190 are members of Protocol Guild and 111 participated in the survey. The survey results are less optimistic: Apart from the median annual salary of $140,000, only 37% of respondents received equity or token incentives from their employers. In other words, they don’t get the wealth appreciation opportunities that many people entering the tech industry expect. For comparison, according to Protocol Guild, Coinbase’s entry-level employees have a base salary of $150,000 per year, with an additional $56,000 in stocks and bonuses per year. It should be noted that Coinbase is a U.S. company, and many of the respondents surveyed by Protocol Guild may come from countries with lower wage levels. In addition, Protocol Guild also supplements developers' revenue by accepting tokens donated tokens based on Ethereum. Since 2022, it claims to have distributed more than $33 million. However, 38% of respondents said they received job opportunities in the past year—most from other blockchains, including the second-tier blockchain in the Ethereum ecosystem. As mentioned earlier, the median salary they received was quoted at $300,000.
