Chicago budget leaders propose cutting and raising costs to address deficit

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed 89 plans to address the $1.15 billion deficit, including mandatory leave, freezes of recruitment, raising fees and inflation-linked property tax hikes aimed at cutting $455.5 million in costs and increasing revenue by $1.65 billion. The final report and long-term solution will be submitted in May.
