OpenAI hires xAI former CFO Ultraman competes with Musk to upgrade

According to CNBC, OpenAI has hired Mike Liberatol, former treasurer of xAI, a subsidiary of Elon Musk, as the commercial finance officer of the artificial intelligence startup, to oversee its large-scale infrastructure spending. A company spokesman said Liberatol resigned in July this year after only three months of working at xAI and officially joined OpenAI this Tuesday. He will report to Chief Financial Officer Sarah Frial and collaborate with Greg Brockman’s team, which manages the contract and capital operations behind OpenAI’s computing power strategy. The personnel appointment is the latest trend in the escalation of competition between OpenAI CEO Ultraman Sam and Musk. The two co-founded OpenAI nonprofit research lab in 2015, but have been openly broken and become a rival in recent years as the company transforms into a rapidly growing business entity mainly invested by Microsoft.
