U.S. lawyers warn: Allowing Trump to remove FTC members will also shake Fed independence

Huobi HTX reported that the lawyer for the only remaining Democrat of the Federal Trade Commission told the U.S. Supreme Court that allowing U.S. President Trump to remove members of independent institutions will weaken the legal basis of the Fed's independence. The attorney for FTC Commissioner Slaughter made the argument in a document filed with the Supreme Court, asking the court to allow her to remain in office during the hearing of the Trump administration’s appeal. Trump is seeking to overturn a 90-year-old Supreme Court decision that allows Congress to set up independent bodies and protects leaders of those bodies from being fired.
