Israel has released 187 cryptocurrency addresses that were allegedly used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to receive USDT worth $1.5 billion and calls for seizure of these addresses. Elliptic confirmed that these addresses did receive USDT, but pointed out that some of them might belong to cryptocurrency service providers rather than directly to Iran. Tether has previously frozen assets related to criminal activities. Earlier, an Israeli group launched a hacking attack in June, stealing $90 million from the Iranian exchange Nobitex, which some claim is linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iran has long used cryptocurrency to evade sanctions.
