GoPlus: Web3 security incident in August caused more than $169 million in losses

According to BlockBeats, on September 15, according to the latest statistics from GoPlus, in August 2025, the Web3 ecosystem suffered economic losses of up to US$169,283,216 due to major security incidents. The types of security incidents include smart contract attacks, social engineering attacks, phishing attacks, Piheng disks and Rugpull. Among the contract attacks and related exploits, 24 major incidents caused losses of approximately $68.11 million. Phishing attacks caused a total loss of more than $10 million in August and more than 10,000 victimized addresses, up about 70% and 60% from June, respectively. Some phishing tools have supported single batch theft of assets through updates. In terms of Piheng disk and fraud, 108 Piheng tokens were added to the Ethereum main network, Base and BSC in August. Among them, there are 8 on ETH, 46 on Base, and 54 on BSC. In addition, on August 19, a social engineering scam occurred, involving 783 BTC (about $91 million), and the scammers pretended to be trading platforms and hardware wallet customer service to trick users into leaking information, and the funds then flowed through Wasabi Wallet.
