The size of U.S. ETF assets reached a record $12.19 trillion in August, up from $10.35 trillion at the end of 2024, and year-to-date inflows reached $799 billion. The three major ETF providers—iShares, Vanguard and State Street—control nearly three-quarters of the market share. Stock ETFs led the way in August, reaching $42 billion, followed by fixed income funds, reaching $32 billion. Cryptocurrency ETFs, including Bitcoin and Ethereum products, currently manage more than $120 billion in total funds. Analysts point out that automatic capital inflows from retirement accounts and passive strategies are reducing market sensitivity to Fed policies, raising questions about the Fed’s influence.
