Galaxy Digital Research Director: The U.S. has a high possibility of building strategic Bitcoin reserves this year

According to Golden Finance, Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy Digital, said that the U.S. government is likely to establish strategic Bitcoin reserves by the end of this year. Thorn posted on X platform that the market seems to have completely underestimated the possibility of such announcements. Although President Trump signed an executive order to formally establish strategic bitcoin reserves and U.S. digital asset reserves in March, the formal strategic plan has not been confirmed. However, several recent progress shows that the plan is still underway. On Tuesday, U.S. lawmakers introduced a bill directing the U.S. Treasury Department to review and develop reports on the feasibility and technical considerations of strategic bitcoin reserves. However, not all crypto market participants think this will happen soon. This is more likely to happen in 2026, former CoinRoutes chairman Dave Weisburger said. Some Bitcoin advocates worry that if the U.S. continues to delay accumulating Bitcoin, it may lag behind other countries.
