Walker was a direct subordinate of AI head John Giannandrea, who was early in charge of Siri's management, then turned to dominate an AI web search system planned to launch next year, competing with ChatGPT and Perplexity. Recently, several executives and engineers have left the Apple AI department, including Ruoming Pang who switched to Meta and Frank Chu who is responsible for search services. An Apple spokesperson did not comment.
