Nepal Gen Z selects new leader on Discord, cryptocurrency community shocks

Discord is a platform that is loved by cryptocurrency traders and gamers, but now unexpectedly becomes the center of Nepal’s political organization. More than 130,000 young activists used Discord to coordinate and vote for interim leaders after the Nepal government banned major social media platforms due to protests. On September 10, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was elected by more than 7,700 votes, a result confirmed in a meeting with the President of Nepal and the Chief of Staff of the Army. The cryptocurrency community notes that there are similarities between Discord’s decentralization, internet-native governance and DAO-style voting, highlighting its expanding role outside the digital asset space.
