According to the Financial Times, Microsoft and OpenAI have signed a non-binding agreement on new terms of the relationship. The agreement will allow OpenAI to advance its restructuring plan, making it a for-profit company. The companies did not provide more details on the new business arrangement but said they were working to finalize the terms of the final agreement. Bret Taylor, the current chairman of the nonprofit board of OpenAI, said the move “will allow us to raise the funds needed to complete our mission and ensure that the nonprofit’s resources will also grow simultaneously as OpenAI’s PBC grows, achieving a vision of having a historic impact on society.”
