PANews reported on September 11 that according to The Block, multiple Ethereum validators on the SSV network suffered a cut on Wednesday, involving validators operating Ankr and clusters of seven operators migrating from an Allnodes, raising concerns about the security of the SSV protocol. SSV Labs CEO Alon Muroch stated on the X platform that "the SSV protocol has not been broken" and that operators and stakeholders do not need to take corrective measures. According to post-event analysis, the monitoring system issued an alarm for the first time at 11:51 UTC time, and a larger reduction occurred about 90 minutes later, affecting 39 validators. The investigation shows that the two incidents originated from outside the SSV protocol and were related to the management of the verifier key. No double signature or failure was found in SSV. Muroch said that the larger incident caused a reduction in the simultaneous activation of the verifier key due to the improper operation and maintenance configuration of Ankr, and Ankr has closed the affected operators and confirmed the cause; the smaller incidents are still under review, and the secondary verifier settings may also play a role. SSV Labs emphasizes the importance of strictly managing keys and says that the SSV protocol and infrastructure are still intact.
