EIP-7702 and the new era of cryptocurrency phishing: the impact on investment strategies based on Ethereum

EIP-7702 is part of the Ethereum Pectra hard fork, which allows EOA to temporarily act as a smart contract wallet, introduces features such as Gas sponsorship, but also triggers phishing attacks. Organizations such as #InfernoDrainer used the mechanism to steal funds, and one incident stolen $146,000 in a single transaction. This mechanism allows an attacker to deploy malicious delegation contracts after stealing private keys and hijack transactions. Institutional exposure is huge and WLFI faces potential losses of $2.5 million. Wallet providers such as MetaMask are implementing whitelists, while experts recommend using multi-signature wallets and strict contract verification to reduce risk.
